Hedge

An investment strategy used to offset risk - an investment made specifically to reduce or cancel out risk in another investment. E.g. investing in non-Australian securities to reduce currency risk.

Hedge Fund

A professionally managed investment in which the manager is able to use a number of higher risk investment techniques, such as borrowing money and selling short, in order to deliver positive returns independent of returns from traditional asset classes.

Historical Yield

The actual yield or return from an investment over a given period, measured from the beginning of the period.
